This weekend sees the start of the RBS Six Nations Rugby Competition. England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France and Italy go head to head, and scrum down to see who will be this years’ rugby champion nation of the northern hemisphere.
Wales had an emphatic Grand Slam victory in the 2008 Six Nations Competition. Will they be able to retain the title or will Martin Johnson be able to mount a serious challenge with England?
England manager Martin Johnson has a tough job to revive the fortunes of the England team. But the much talked about Danny Cipriani will not play any part in England v Italy at Twickenham.
The 21-year-old Wasps fly-half will instead line-up to play for the England Saxons squad to face Ireland A in Dublin on Friday. This follows Cipriani playing inconsistently in England’s three internationals in November when Johnson recalled the young fly-half after a long injury.
Martin Johnson instead has given a surprise recall to Brive’s Andy Goode after two years absence from the England Rugby squad.
The 2009 RBS Six Nations Rugby opening matches start this weekend, Saturday 7th February with England v Italy followed by Ireland v France. For any rugby fans without Six Nations Tickets, the BBC will have live exclusive coverage of every match.
BBC One live coverage of the England v Italy match starts at 2pm (kick off 3pm) with Ireland v France following on at 4.50 – 7.05pm (kick off 5pm).
